AirAsia X, the long-haul affiliate of Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia, will begin a four-times weekly Kuala Lumpur-Christchurch service on 1 April 2011.

The airline says it will deploy Airbus A330 aircraft on this route, which is its 15th destination.

This is AirAsia's sixth new destination in 2010. The airline has also launched services to India, South Korea, Japan, Tehran, and France.

Christchurch will be an important feeder market into its growing international network, says AirAsia X.

There are no airlines operating on the Kuala Lumpur-Christchurch route, according to schedules in Innovata.
