AirAsia X traffic up 36.2% in 2011

Long-haul budget airline AirAsia X's passenger traffic, measured in RPKs, grew by 36.2% in 2011 from 2010.

Capacity, measured in ASKs, grew by 30% year on year, while total passengers carried by the airline increased by 31.5% to 2.5 million in 2011. Load factor rose by 3.6 percentage points year on year to a historical high of 80.1% last year.

The airline's cargo load grew by 31.6% to 35,000 tonnes last year.

For the fourth quarter of 2011, the airline's RPKs grew by 12.3% from the same quarter a year ago. Total capacity for the quarter rose by 12.2%, resulting in a load factor of 82%.

AirAsia X carried 640,000 passengers, up by 7.3% year on year, and 8,500 tonnes of freight in the quarter.
