AirAsia X has wet-leased an Airbus A340-300 aircraft to Venezuela's flag carrier Conviasa.

The aircraft is registered 9M-XAC, and will be wet-leased for at least six months, says the airline.

When asked about the difficulties Venezuela has in making payments through foreign currency, it emphasised that the payment terms for the wet-lease has been agreed upon and specified in the contract.

Plans to extend the wet-lease with Conviasa will depend on the progress of the current agreement, and should there be extra capacity in its fleet. This would include wet-lease for other carriers or even charter operations, the airline adds.

Flightglobal’s Ascend Fleets database shows that as of 18 August, AirAsia X has a single Airbus A340-300s (registered 9M-XAB) left in its fleet. This is besides the other A340 on wet-lease to Conviasa. FlightRadar24 indicates 9M-XAC began flying for Conviasa since 10 August.
