Russian carrier AirBridgeCargo boosted freight tonnage 16% to 188,000t in the first six months of the year.

Capacity was increased 19%, as the Volga-Dnepr Group-owned cargo carrier expanded its network with a Dallas/Fort Worth route, a rise in frequencies to Chicago, new flights to Leipzig, Munich and Malmo, and a Chicago-Frankfurt service.

Load factor came in at 72%. Tonnage grew 13% in Russia, 23% to North America and 29% to Asia.

“The challenges which the global air cargo market continues to face have not held back ABC’s development,” says executive president Denis Ilin. We have achieved our goals for the first half of the year and lay down ambitious plans for the second half of 2014, which will include launching of more new routes and increasing our frequencies on a number of existing routes, as well as growing our fleet.

He adds: We will surely keep focus on our home market, not only by developing additional import business to Russia but also by launching domestic routes using the Boeing 737 freighter fleet of Atran Airlines another carrier within Volga-Dnepr.

We are on track for good 2014,” says Ilin, who expects full-year tonnage to exceed 400,000t.
