French rubber specialist SMAC will provide noise-reduction panels for the interior fuselage skin on the Airbus A350.
The Toulon-based company has designed a special variant of its 'SMACSONIC' skin damping product for the twinjet.
Its new model consists of a thin carbon-fibre plate, elastic rubber layers to absorb vibrations, and double-sided adhesives to bond the panels to the fuselage skin areas in between structural components.
Five years of development work was reqired before the airframer approved the panels in January, according to SMAC.
The firm is already supplying similar panels and other rubber sealing products for the Boeing 787.
