South Africa regional operator Airlink has leased four pre-owned Embraer ERJ-135 regional jets from ECC Leasing, a subsidiary of Embraer.
The 37-seat aircraft, bearing serial numbers 551, 620, 720 and 725, will be delivered to the carrier at the end of this month.
"These regional jets will replace our oldest turboprops, improving reliability and quality of service," says South African Airlink CEO Rodger Foster.
Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
In late December Airlink's entire Jetstream 41 fleet was taken out of operation after an engine problem on a 23 December flight, which bore similarities to the failure linked to a fatal Airlink accident three months earlier.
Airlink last week began resuming some Jetstream services.
In addition to Jetstream 41s, the carrier's fleet currently comprises ERJ-135s, Avro RJ85s, BAe 146 aircraft, according to Flightglobal's ACAS database.
