Airservices Australia has completed instrument landing system (ILS) upgrade works at Alice Springs airport.

This was part of a nationwide programme to upgrade all of Airservices' 23 landing systems to Norwegian company Indra Navia's Normarc 7000 series equipment.

The Normarc 7000 series allows Airservices to sustain reliable category 1 precision approach capability on runways with the upgraded ILS until 2025.

The A$2 million ($2.08 million) upgrade also included the replacing of transmitters at the glide path tower and localiser array. The transmitters ensure that during an approach, the aircraft is within the lateral and vertical parameters of the used runway.
