State-owned air traffic management firm Airservices Australia has begun work to upgrade the instrument landing system (ILS) at Perth airport.

This includes the replacement of localiser antenna arrays at each end of main runway 03L/21.

The airport will use other navigation aids like the VHF omni-directional range and area navigation (RNAV) procedures while the ILS undergoes upgrading.

The system is expected to be back in service by early November, says Airservices.
