Southwest Airlines subsidiary AirTran Airways has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to operate seasonal summer service between Austin and Los Cabos, Mexico.

The airline plans to begin this route on or around 2 June, offering thrice weekly service with Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

No carrier operates non-stop between Austin and Los Cabos, schedules in Innovata show.

AirTran received approval from the DOT in December 2012 to begin service between Denver and Los Cabos from 10 March. It already offers non-stop service between Los Cabos and John Wayne Airport in Orange County. AirTran also serves Cancun and Mexico City in the country.
