Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker has been appointed to the board of Heathrow Airport Holdings following the Gulf state's investment in the UK hub last year.

In August 2012, Qatar Holding, a subsidiary of the country's sovereign wealth fund Qatar Investment Authority, acquired a 20% stake in FGP Topgo - the owner of Heathrow Airport Holdings - for £900 million ($1.4 billion).

The UK hub says that Al Baker has been named non-executive director along with Ali Bouzarif.
