Alaska Airlines is stepping up competition with JetBlue Airways in February once it launches flights from Long Beach to Portland, Oregon.
The two daily nonstop flights offered by Alaska join two daily flights offered by JetBlue on the route. Alaska is operating two-class Boeing 737s on its flights compared with JetBlue's 100-seat Embraer E-190s.
With JetBlue's October launch followed by Alaska's February introduction of flights, the Long Beach-Portland route will have jumped from zero flights to four daily in a span of five months.
In addition to the inauguration of flights between Long Beach and Portland, Alaska is adding a second daily nonstop between Anchorage and Chicago from 7 June through 22 August.
