Alaska Airlines will begin direct flights between San Diego and Orlando on 11 October.

The Seattle-based carrier will operate five-times-weekly service on the route using a 157-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The new service follows new routes to Fresno, Monterey and Santa Rosa on Alaska's regional subsidiary Horizon Air that begin in June.

No other carrier operates nonstop flights from San Diego to Orlando, according to the Innovata schedules.
