Alaska traffic up 8.5% in July

Alaska Air Group has reported an 8.5% rise in traffic year-on-year in July.

The group carried 2.45 million passengers in July, a 5% increase compared with the same month last year.

Its capacity rose 8% compared with June 2011, while its load factor increased 0.5 percentage points to 88.3%.

The results include flights operated by Alaska Airlines and those under capacity purchase agreements with wholly-owned Horizon Air as well as PenAir and SkyWest.

Alaska reported an 8.8% increase year-on-year in mainline traffic in July.

The airline's capacity rose 8.3% year-on-year, while the load factor increased 0.3 percentage points to 88.8%. It carried 1.77 million passengers, a 4.4% increase year-on-year.

Horizon Air's traffic grew 6.5% year-on-year in July, while capacity was up by 4.8% during the period.

The regional airline's load factor grew 1.3 percentage points to 82.2% in July. It carried 624,000 passengers, up 6.5% year-on-year.
