Cleveland-based aluminium manufacturer Aleris has received orders to provide aluminium for the production of Comac's C919 prototype.

Aleris will provide conventional aluminium alloys and advanced alumiunium alloy with high-damage tolerance to Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing, a subsidiary of Comac.

These materials will be used on the lower wing covers of the C919.

The aluminium will first be delivered from Aleris's plant in Germany and in later stages, deliveries will made from the firm's rolling mill in China.

"This announcement is an important step forward for Aleris as we look to capitalize on the significant growth that is occurring in the aerospace industry in Asia," says president of Aleris China, John Zhu. "We appreciate COMAC's partnership and look forward to delivering innovative, quality materials that will enable them to produce this high-performance aircraft."
