Alitalia awaits outcome of bids on Sardinia routes

Alitalia is to find out imminently whether it has won government contracts to operate several subsidised routes between Sardinia and mainland Italy.

The Italian flag carrier has applied to both the national aviation authority ENAC and Sardinaia's autonomous government to operate public service obligation (PSO) flights to Alghero and Olbia from Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino for four years.

A competing application for the Alghero-Rome route has been made by regional carrier Livingston.

Alitalia says it may also a bid for the Cagliari-Rome route, to be decided on later.
