Alitalia's board will vote on Monday 4 February whether to accept a loan from shareholders that will eliminate the need for the Italian carrier to recapitalise.

The SkyTeam member says the loan likely to be between €150-200 million ($203-271 million) but could rise above that level.

It declined to reveal further details of funding, including whether shareholders would see their stakes in the airline altered as a result.

Air France-KLM, which owns 25% of Alitalia, declined to comment.
