Italian flag carrier Alitalia and Brazilian low-cost operator Gol are looking to improve connections between their respective countries through a codeshare.

Gol says it has "requested authorisation" from the two governments to implement a codeshare agreement.

It says it will enable SkyTeam member Alitalia - which operates from Rome to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro - to include the Gol designator code on its services.

"The agreement will ensure improved access to connections between Brazil and Europe for clients of both companies," says Gol.

The Brazilian carrier is part-owned by SkyTeam alliance member Delta Air Lines, with which it codeshares. In a further link to SkyTeam, it has a partnership with Air France-KLM.
