Alitalia has become the latest carrier to join the rush to offer Budapest flights in the wake of Malev's demise.

From 20 February the Italian airline will advance the resumption of flights from Rome Fiumicino to Budapest, initially planned for the summer season, it said. The flights will operate on Monday, Friday and Sunday.

This will rise to five weekly flights as of 1 March, as the airline adds services on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and then to daily services from 1 April.
