Allegiant Air has formed a joint venture to provide mobile technology services to the commercial aviation industry.

Called Allegiant Systems, or G4 Systems, the cloud-based system will provide software such as electronic flights bags. Allegiant is forming the joint venture with airline technology consulting firm AvIntel and software provider Lixar.

"We are pleased to have such strong partners in Allegiant Systems," says Maury Gallagher, Allegiant's chief executive. "We feel that the combination of these organisations brings unique capabilities to the industry, and we are excited about being a part of something that could revolutionise airline technology strategies.

Former AvIntel managing director Andrew Kemmetmueller will be chief executive of Allegiant Systems.
