Low-cost carrier Allegiant Air has added additional seats to 40 Boeing MD-80s as part of an ongoing reconfiguration programme, and expects to complete the work on 43 to 45 aircraft by end-2012.
The carrier has said it is adding 16 seats to each of its 51 MD-82/83s, taking the total number of seats on board to 166.
As of 23 October, it has completed the work on 40 aircraft. Allegiant's chief executive Maurice Gallagher has said the airline could complete the project in the first quarter of 2013.
Allegiant expects to end 2012 with an in-service fleet of 62 aircraft, comprising 58 MD-80s and four 757s.
