Aviation insurer Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) has appointed Henning Haagen as global head of Aviation Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
Haagen, who will serve as global underwriting leader for aviation insurance business, will replace Florian Karner who has managed the aviation team for Allianz since 2006. Karner is leaving AGCS to take up a new leadership role in general insurance broking in Monte Carlo.
After a phased transition to allow for the upcoming reinsurance renewal season, Haagen will assume the role from 1 January 2013. Karner will remain in his current role to support the coordinated transition.
Haagen joined AGCS in 2008 as head of aviation reinsurance underwriting, moving in 2011 to be global head of reinsurance for AGCS where he managed outwards reinsurance across all lines of business. Before working at Allianz, he managed the aviation reinsurance portfolio of Brit Insurance and, prior to that, was an aviation underwriting manager at GE Insurance Solutions.
In 2011, AGCS underwrote over €600 million ($780 million) in gross written premiums in the aviation sectors.
