Colombia-based Avianca plans to operate its first Boeing 787s to London and Frankfurt, says AviancaTaca's chief executive Fabio Villegas.
The carrier announced yesterday that it had finalised the addition of three 787-8s to its existing order of 12 for the aircraft type. AviancaTaca told Flightglobal in June that it had converted the three options.
Avianca, which has merged with Taca, expects to receive its first 787 in the first half of 2014, Villegas tells Flightglobal. It will receive four aircraft that year.
"It's quite a fast process," says Villegas of the delivery rate.
The airline plans to use the aircraft to launch flights to London and Frankfurt. "Once we add the 787 to our fleet, we can do that. It is the right plane [for those routes]," says Villegas.
Avianca now operates to only Madrid and Barcelona in Europe.
