Azerbaijan Airlines' amended order for two Boeing 787-8s and two 767-300ERs marks the first net reduction in the 787 airframe orderbooks since the programme's launch.
Boeing has confirmed that the Baku-based carrier has revised an order placed last year for three 787s and two 737-900ERs.
It is taking another two 737-900ERs, but is axing one of the 787s in favour of a pair of 767-300ERs. Boeing confirms that the carrier has finalised the order for the four extra aircraft, valuing the deal at $449 million at list prices.
Azerbaijan Airlines had tentatively selected the General Electric GEnx to power its 787s. It has not disclosed an engine choice for the 767s, the first of the type for the carrier.
Its change has resulted in the first net reduction of firm orders for 787 airframes, although Italian carrier Blue Panorama dropped its direct order for four of the type in 2006, in favour of a lease arrangement with Pegasus Aviation - now AWAS - that picked up the airframes instead.
Since All Nippon Airways became the first carrier to sign for the 787 in July 2004, there have been firm orders for 895 aircraft.
