American and Qatar announce codeshare

American Airlines and Qatar Airways plan to begin codesharing on flights to and beyond Doha from 26 February.

The Fort Worth-based carrier would place its code on Qatar flights between Europe and the USA and Doha, as well as flights beyond Doha in the Middle East, according to American. Qatar would place its code on American flights in the USA.

"Our extensive codeshare relationship with Qatar Airways will provide our customers with easy, premium access when travelling to and from the Middle East and beyond," says Kurt Stache, vice-president of strategic alliances at American.

The codeshare is subject to regulatory approval.

Qatar was elected a member designate of the Oneworld alliance in October 2012. American is a member of Oneworld.
