American Airlines and US Airways have both confirmed matching surcharges instituted on flights from the US to Europe.

Delta Air Lines was the first carrier to institute the $3 charge over the weekend, and United Airlines subsequently mirrored Delta's actions. American and US Airways are the latest carriers to follow suit.

The charges follow aviation's inclusion in the EU's European Trading System (ETS) beginning 1 January.
