Long-time American Eagle CEO Peter Bowler has unveiled plans to retire from the carrier.

Bowler's career with the regional carrier and its parent American Airlines spans 26 years. He joined American in 1984, and was named chief of American Eagle in 1998.

"For more than a decade, Peter has led the American Eagle team through one of the most challenging periods in our industry. He has also been a key member of American's Executive Committee during this period," says American CEO Gerard Arpey.

Bowler will remain in his current role until a successor is named.
