AMR subsidiary American Airlines reports a $291 million net loss in September, widening its deficit since August.
Operating revenue was $1.9 billion and operating expenses $2.15 billion at the Fort Worth-based Oneworld carrier during the month. Its operating loss was $244 million.
American faced an increased number of maintenance reports from its pilots and cancellations during September, which resulted in it reducing between 1% and 2% of its schedule during the second half of the month.
The airline reported an $82 million net loss in August after profits in both June and July.
American had $4.2 billion in cash and short-term investments and $6.49 billion in long-term debt and capital leases on 30 September. This is down from $4.3 billion in cash and $6.6 billion in debt a month earlier.
