The Allied Pilots Association (APA) board of directors has authorised a strike vote among pilots at American Airlines beginning on 12 September.

The online balloting will be complete on 3 October with the results announced the same day, according to the union.

The APA says that Fort Worth-based American plans to implement a combination of elements from its last, best and final offer, which the pilots rejected on 8 August, and the term sheet that it submitted to the bankruptcy court as part of its section 1113 request to reject its previous pilots contract. It notes that the airline has indicated that no pilots will be furloughed.

American did not comment by press time.

APA began preparing for a strike vote on 22 August after the airline submitted its revised section 1113 motion to the court.
