American Airlines has posted a 0.4% fall in passenger traffic in August.

Capacity declined 1.2% year-on-year, said the Oneworld carrier. Its passenger load factor rose 0.7 percentage point to 85.3%. Overall passenger numbers fell 0.9% to 7.65 million.

International traffic grew 3% while international capacity was up 1.1%, resulting in a 1.5 percentage point growth in the international load factor to 84%.

Domestic traffic was down 2.6% and domestic capacity declined 2.8%, said American. The domestic load factor rose 0.2 percentage point to 86.1%.

Passenger traffic at American's regional subsidiaries American Eagle Airlines and Executive Airlines rose 10.2% in August, while capacity grew 7.5%. The load factor was up 1.9 percentage point to 75%.
