American posts 2% fall in November traffic

American Airlines has posted a 1.7% decline in traffic in November.

Capacity was down 4%, and the passenger load factor grew 1.9 percentage point to 82.3%, said the Oneworld carrier.

Domestic traffic declined 1.7% and international traffic fell 1.8%. Domestic capacity decreased 5% and international capacity fell 2.3%.

On a year-to-date basis, systemwide traffic grew 0.9%. Domestic traffic fell 1% and international traffic rose 4.1%. Overall capacity grew 0.9% year-on-year, said American. Domestic capacity was down 1.4% and international traffic grew 4.4%.

The systemwide load factor grew 0.1 percentage point to 82.1%. The domestic load factor inched up 0.3 percentage point to 83.4% and the international load factor declined 0.2 percentage point to 80.1%.

American's regional subsidiary American Eagle posted a 7.2% growth in traffic in November. Capacity was up 5.8% year-on-year while the load factor grew 0.9 percentage point to 73.9%.
