American Airlines reported a $773 million net profit in December, reversing four months of losses.
Operating revenue was $2.05 billion and operating expenses $2.01 billion during the month, according to a stock exchange filing. Operating income was $42 million.
Fort Worth-based American benefitted from a one-time $280 million settlement of a commercial dispute in December.
The carrier lost $347 million in November.
Cash and short-term investments was down 2.7% to $3.9 billion and long-term dept and capital leases less current obligations were down 1.1% to $7.12 billion in December versus a month earlier.
