American Airlines took delivery of its first Airbus A321 in Hamburg today.
The aircraft (registration N101NN and MSN 5834) is in the Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier’s transcontinental configuration has 102 seats in three classes and will be used exclusively on flights between New York JFK and both Los Angeles International and San Francisco International airports.
Flights to Los Angeles begin on 7 January 2014 and San Francisco on 6 March 2014.
The first aircraft flies from Hamburg to Goose Bay, Canada, then to Boston Logan International and finally Dallas/Fort Worth International airport, according to American.
The A321 is one of 130 A319 and A321 aircraft that American has on firm order from Airbus. It has not designated how many of each type it plans to take.
It received its first A319 in July.
American is scheduled take delivery of five A321s before the end of the year.
