Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport was the scene of a drug related shoot-out this morning that left two people injured and six arrested.

A spokesman for the airport’s military police says: “There was a shooting at the airport and it has nothing to do with terrorists, it has to do with drugs. It was a drug deal and two people were shooting at each other.”

The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 just outside the departures lounge at the national airport.

Airport security across European and the rest of the world has been stepped up since the terrorist attacks on the United States. European carriers have also been concerned about airside security at some European airports. In the last year, there has been one successful diamond robbery at Brussels National airport and a failed second attempt as well as another heist at Luxembourg Findel airport.
