All Nippon Airways (ANA) has filed an application with the Japanese Government for anti-trust immunity to launch a joint venture with Lufthansa on routes between Japan and Europe.

If approved, the joint venture will enable them to jointly manage their Japan-Europe operations in areas such as scheduling, pricing and sales, say the airlines.

"By forging this closer cooperation with one of our partner airlines in the Star Alliance, we will significantly enhance our ability to serve customers throughout Europe and offer new choices and convenience for passengers," says ANA president and CEO Shinichiro Ito.

The joint venture is subject to approval by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
