Air New Zealand (ANZ) plans to expand its in-flight connectivity service to two more Airbus A320 aircraft by end-2011.

The Star Alliance carrier's partnership with OnAir will enable the use of mobile phones to make phone calls and send and receive text messages and e-mails on the aircraft.

"This new inflight technology, which uses an aircraft-based cell site and Inmarsat satellites, will mean our customers onboard our new domestic A320 aircraft will be able to safely use their mobile to stay in touch by text, phone call and email," says ANZ's general manager airline operations David Morgan.

The carrier first rolled out the OnAir service on two domestic A320s it took delivery of in February.

ANZ has become the first Pacific airline to roll out the services on a permanent basis, says OnAir.
