Air New Zealand’s international leisure unit Freedom Air is to expand its Fijian operations with non-stop flights from Wellington.

The carrier says in a statement that the new services will be launched early in 2005 and it will be the only airline operating on the Wellington-Nadi route. Tickets will go on sale next month, when full details of the new services are to be announced.

Freedom Air recently reinstated services to Fiji that were suspended after a coup in the South Pacific island nation in 1999. It now serves the main international gateway at Nadi from the New Zealand cities of Christchurch, Hamilton and Palmerston North.

“Fiji has proven to be an extremely popular holiday destination for New Zealanders with more than 14,000 bookings made on our new services so far,” says acting general manager Michael Young.
