The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) has joined discussions regarding a possible merger between American Airlines and US Airways.

The union says that it has signed a non-disclosure agreement to join the talks between the management teams of the two airlines and the unsecured creditors committee, in a statement on 20 December.

"Further developments will remain confidential," says APFA. "[But] we know from previous major mergers that labour discussions like these were critical milestones."

APFA represents flight attendants at American Airlines. It has repeatedly stated its support for a merger between the two airlines since April.

The Allied Pilots Association and US Airline Pilots Association, which represent American and US Airways East pilots respectively, are already participating in discussions.
