South Korea's Asiana Airlines and Panama's Copa Airlines have applied to the US Department of Transportation to allow them to codeshare.
Asiana plans to display Copa's code on its flights between Seoul Incheon and New York John F. Kennedy, and between Seoul and Los Angeles. Copa will display Asiana's code on its flights between JFK and Panama City, and Los Angeles and Panama City.
The two carriers, both members of Star Alliance, agreed into a codeshare agreement in May 2013 with effect from 9 December. The carriers plan to begin the codeshare services on or around that date.
South Korea and Panama signed an open skies agreement in 2012, which included unrestricted fifth freedom rights.
