Italian MRO provider Atitech has gained EASA design organisation approval (DOA) for cabin modifications.
The Part 21, subpart J certificate authorises the Naples-based company to design and approve minor changes to cabin interior equipment and related structural components.
Atitech says that it is preparing supplemental type certificates for cabin refurbishments, and that building engineering services is part of expanding its current core airframe heavy maintenance business.
The independent MRO provider - which used to be part of Alitalia's engineering arm - has thus far specialised on Boeing 737, MD-80 and Airbus A320 narrowbody aircraft.
But the firm expanded its capabilities to 767 widebodies at the end of 2012.
