Atlas Air Worldwide will place a ninth Boeing 747-400 freighter into service for DHL in July 2012.

The aircraft will operate for DHL Express' trans-Pacific global network under an aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance agreement.

Atlas Air Worldwide operator Atlas Air will operate the aircraft for Polar Air Cargo Worldwide. Atlas Air is a majority shareholder of Polar Air Cargo Worldwide.

ohn Dietrich, Atlas Air's executive vice president and chief operating officer, said during Atlas Air's investor call on 6 June that the operator is also ramping up its Boeing 767-200F crew, maintenance and insurance agreement for DHL's US network. Atlas plans to add three Boeing 767s to that fleet by September, in addition to two currently in operation.

Atlas introduced two Boeing 767-200F aircraft in service for DHL's US network in March and late May 2012.

Dietrich says that Atlas plans to add the next 767-200F to that fleet on 19 June, followed by two more in July and September 2012.

These first three aircraft will fly various routes that include cargo shipments from DHL's hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Toledo, Minneapolis, Phoenix, San Diego and San Francisco.

Atlas and DHL are still determining the routes that the last two aircraft will travel.
