ATR has confirmed Avation's recent order for additional ATR 72-600s.

The operating lessor announced last week a conversion of three options for the model as well as four purchase rights, bringing its total number of aircraft on firm order to 20.

The French-Italian aircraft manufacturer says the new contract for the purchase of seven ATR 72-600s is valued at more than $160 million.

In addition, Avation has a number of further options and purchase rights.

The first seven ordered aircraft have already been delivered and are being operated in the Virgin Australia network by SkyWest Airlines.

"We are pleased with the outstanding performance and commercial results that our ATR aircraft are already providing us," says chairman and founding director of Avation, Jeff Chatfield.

ATR chief executive Filippo Bagnato adds: "The ATR 72-600s are the right solution for replacing jets and for market development on shorter regional routes for direct service between small and medium-sized destinations as well as to feed main hubs."
