Aircraft manufacturer ATR has opened its first training centre for pilots and maintenance technicians in Africa to support the growing number of its aircraft operated in the continent.
The centre, which is located in Johannesburg, is equipped with a full-flight simulator that allows training for ATR 42-300s and -500s, and ATR 72-200s and -500s types of aircraft, says ATR.
The centre will also provide maintenance technician training, with ATR providing the instructors and teaching resources.
To operate these new facilities, ATR has formed a partnership with South African carrier Comair.
"By opening this new centre, we will be able to offer airlines the most modern training tools, highly qualified instructors, optimum course follow-up and a local service which is already proving beneficial," says Lilian Brayle, ATR's senior vice-president for product support and services.
In addition to Johannesburg, ATR also has training centres in Toulouse, Paris, Bangkok and Toronto.
