Auckland airport international passenger numbers up 2.7% in December

Auckland airport's international passenger numbers, excluding transits, increased by 2.7% year on year to 716,000 in December 2012.

Australian routes performed strongly in December, increasing by 6.5% year on year, says the airport. Visitors from Japan grew by 34%, while passenger numbers on Chinese and German routes climbed by 13% and by 10% respectively.

Visitor arrivals from the UK, Singapore and South Korea fell in December.

International passenger numbers, including transits, rose by 0.4% to 758,000, while domestic passenger numbers rose by 10% to 617,000.

Total aircraft movements at the airport increased by 0.6% to 13,500. International aircraft movements fell by 1.6% to 3,950, while domestic aircraft movements grew by 1.5% to 9,570.

Queenstown airport had a strong performance in December, with international passengers increasing by 51.8% and domestic passengers rising by 19.2% year on year.
