The Australian government has announced that it will introduce changes to flightcrew licensing regulations by the end of the year.

Among the changes will be an increase in the training requirements of copilots flying transport aircraft, improved standards for flight training organisations, and the introduction of a low-level flying rating and additional requirements for night time visual flying.

The changes to enhance aviation safety allows Australia to be more in line with the International Civil Aviation Organisation standards, says transport minister Anthony Albanese.

"The new regulations will commence in December this year and will be phased in over the next three to four years, giving [the] industry time to transition to the new safety arrangements," he adds.
