Australian Wings Academy has been granted development approval for a new facility at Glen Innes in northwestern New South Wales.

The Australia-based flight training school is planning to build a pilot and aviation training academy in four stages over the next five years, says its managing director Phil Sweeney.

The facility will be designed to accommodate up to 400 pilot trainees and 200 other students completing aviation-related courses. Besides pilots, the academy will also train aviation engineers and other licensed aviation personnel in courses such as aircraft maintenance, aircraft dispatch and airline operations.

The main educational qualifications to be issued consists of a vocational certificate and diploma, accompanied by a commercial pilot licence and airline transport pilot licence.

The new facility will be a closed campus with student accommodation and it will also house essential training infrastructure including simulators and aircraft maintenance facilities.
