Austrian Airlines commercial chief Karsten Benz is leaving the wholly owned Lufthansa subsidiary to become group infrastructure officer at the parent organisation.
From 1 October, he will be responsible for the merger of infrastructure divisions between Lufthansa’s passenger arm and other group companies.
Austrian says it has not yet selected his successor in the role of commercial chief.
Benz made a “crucial contribution” to returning Austrian to profitability, says Harry Hohmeister, chairman of the Vienna-based airline’s supervisory board as well as chief executive of Swiss International Air Lines, a sister carrier within Lufthansa Group.
After he joined Austrian as commercial chief in April 2012, Benz “emphasised clear features in the market during this hard period of restructuring” via a new sales strategy, says Hohmeister.
