Austrian Airlines has contracted Innsbruck-based regional carrier Air Alps to operate the majority of its flights between Vienna and Linz.

The change comes as Austrian introduces an additional daily frequency from 1 April, bringing the number of direct daily return flights between the two cities to five, except at weekends.

Austrian's own regional operation, Tyrolean Airways, conducts one return flight per day, while Welcome Aviation Group subsidiary Air Alps has taken over the remaining services.

Tyrolean will operate a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 on the route while Air Alps uses Dornier Fairchild 328 turboprops.
