Parker Aerospace Thermal Management Systems business development manager Dan Kinney is celebrating after winning a more than $4 million contract from Northrop Grumman to supply SprayCool avionics enclosures for the US Air Force's Global Hawk and Lockheed Martin U-2 reconnaissance aircraft. Used in Northrop's Airborne Signals Intelligence Payload (ASIP) program, the U-2 is equipped with six SprayCool chassis per aircraft, while the Global Hawk uses two. Parker, which will begin hardware deliveries to Northrop later this year, has a glass-fronted SprayCool unit on its booth to demonstrate how the system works. "Atomisers spray fluid which hits the hot components and then vaporizes," said Kenney. "A heat exchanger cools off the fluid and then it recirculates."
