German wet-lease charter specialist Avanti Air is starting scheduled flights from Memmingen airport to Berlin and Hamburg in cooperation with newly founded tour operator Flytouropa.

The latter was established late last year to offer flights from Memmingen after Air Berlin withdrew its services from the regional Bavarian hub in 2010.

Starting 11 June, Siegen-based Avanti Air will conduct flights to Berlin and Hamburg with an ATR 72-200 six times per week. The 26-seat turboprop has undergone a technical check at an unnamed Italian maintenance provider and is now carrying the Flytouropa logo.

Markus Baumann, Avanti's managing director, says that the service could be extended if the domestic routes prove to be commercially successful.

Flytouropa also cooperates with charter carrier Germania, with its website advertising flights from Memmingen to Antalya, Turkey; Paphos, Cyprus; Hurghada, Egypt; and Santa Cruz de La Palma in the Canary Islands, Spain.

Avanti has stationed four aircraft crews and a technician at the airport, which is located in southern Germany's border region with Austria and Switzerland.
