Latin American airline group Avianca will launch non-stop service between San Salvador and Newark Liberty International airport from 8 November.

The flights will be operated by Taca, a subsidiary of the Avianca group.

The airline will fly four-times weekly on the route with Airbus A320 family aircraft, Taca's schedules show.

Taca already operates several flights a week between San Salvador and New York John F. Kennedy (JFK) International airport, schedules in Innovata show.

It will compete against its Star Alliance partner United Airlines on the flights to Newark. United operates weekly on the route with Boeing 737 aircraft.
